Portraits aren't always posed

The best ones rarely are. I work by watching rather than directing, giving people room to forget the camera is there. Not everyone is comfortable being photographed, and that is usually the point: stay back, wait long enough, and the person you actually came to photograph turns up.

It is a documentary approach applied to portraiture, whether that is one person, a working team, or a room full of people at an event.
